Spaceship
- Year
- 2019
In this personal project, I designed and modeled my own spaceship inspired by a manta ray, then textured it in Substance 3D Painter, rendered it in Arnold and finished the image in Photoshop
The design is entirely my own. I took the manta ray as a starting point, borrowing its wide, flat silhouette and the gliding shape of its wings, and translated them into a hard surface vehicle. The challenge was to keep the organic, graceful feel of the animal while giving the ship the panels, structure and details of a believable machine
I modeled the spaceship in Maya, then textured it in Substance 3D Painter. I handled the look development and rendering in Arnold, before finishing the final image in Photoshop
Made in 2019, it is one of my earlier personal projects, and marine animals are an idea I came back to later: the spaceship in The Dusk draws on whales and turtles
