At Framestore, I modeled several backpacks in Maya and ZBrush for Beast, the Universal Pictures film starring Idris Elba, joining the team for around ten days on a sequence
It was a short assignment, focused on a set of props for a specific sequence. I modeled the backpacks in Maya, then added the finer details in ZBrush, keeping in mind that each asset would be passed on to the texture team
Most of my work went into preparing the assets for the next stage of the pipeline. I exported vector displacement maps from ZBrush, then decimated the high resolution models while preserving their UVs. This gave the texture artists lighter versions of the models that they could use to bake the maps they needed, without losing the detail of the sculpt
Even over ten days, this kind of handoff matters: clean, well-prepared assets let the next department start working straight away instead of fixing the data first
